Event Details

In partnership with the University of Michigan - Dearborn, the Library will host a month-long traveling exhibit featuring oral history quotes with photographs of Iraqi refugees who came to Dearborn/Detroit in the 1990s. This exhibit is intended to educate others on the journey refugees make, and connect with other refugees in the area.

The Unsettled Lives: Displaced Iraqis in Metro Detroit exhibition pairs with the Library's Community Conversation topic for the month of November, "Home - Immigration Stories." Moving to a new country, and navigating language, cultural, and economic barriers to establish your new home requires courage, strength and resilience. Residents are encouraged to share your stories, your journey, as we seek to understand each other and the challenges we face, and have overcome, in building a new life and home.
